About

Sera Holland (b. 1981, Johannesburg, South Africa) is an artist and designer based in Cape Town. Sera studied graphic design in Cape Town, and then went on to live and work in Dublin, before returning home to start her own textile design business which she ran for 10 years before getting back into painting. Sera now works full-time as a painter and ceramicist, and has participated in various group shows with galleries across South Africa and abroad.

Her practice combines a long-standing interest in colour and material with experience in design, textiles, and ceramics. She is known for her impasto oil paintings, including her palette scallops made from leftover paint, which reflect her instinct for experimentation and her tactile approach to surface. She draws inspiration from the landscape surrounding Table Mountain as well as from craft, interiors, and graphic arrangement. Her work is grounded in an intuitive process shaped by the physical demands of oil paint, and by an ongoing exploration of how sensory experience informs perception.
