About

Sera Holland is a multidisciplinary artist based in Cape Town, best known for her thick impasto oil paintings that blur the line between abstraction and realism. Her work is driven by an ongoing fascination with texture, colour, and materiality, often drawing from the natural world as a point of departure. Rather than directly replicating landscapes or botanicals, Sera distills their energy, structure, and mood into sculptural layers of paint, sculpting with colour to evoke feeling and form.

The South African landscape plays a central role in her practice. Nature, for Sera, is not something to be captured, but something to respond to, with a sense of playfulness, reverence, and emotional depth. Her thickly layered surfaces hold movement and stillness in equal measure, speaking to life’s cycles and contradictions.
