Sera Holland (b. 1981, Johannesburg, South Africa) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Cape Town. Sera studied graphic design in Cape Town, and then went on to live and work in Dublin, before returning home to start her own textile design business which she ran for 10 years before getting back into painting after a very long hiatus. Sera now works full-time as a painter and ceramicist, and has participated in various group shows with galleries across South Africa and abroad.

Sera is best known for her thick impasto oil paintings that are driven by an ongoing fascination with texture, colour, and materiality. While often drawing from the South African landscape, Sera distills it’s energy, structure, and mood, sculpting with colour to evoke feeling and form. Her thickly layered surfaces hold movement and stillness, speaking to life’s cycles and contradictions.
