Abstract Paintings
Internal Landscapes
For so long I have been looking at and trying to interpret the natural landscape around me, but for this body of work I wanted to look inward, to try and create my own “internal landscapes” using colour and texture and an immense amount of paint.

The painting above is titled Flesh and Blood and speaks to the multiplicity of being a woman. Where ‘flesh’ points to the physical attributes of women, the intimacy of the relationships we have with our own bodies, and ‘blood’ speaks to the constant cycles of reproduction and bodily demands. This work asserts that women are beautiful, tough and strong, vulnerable, imperfect and sometimes a bit spikey - always holding everything and everyone together. Much like a tapestry holding threads.
Ruffles
- to disorder or disarrange
- disturb the smoothness or tranquility
- disconcert or upset the composure
- a vibrating drumbeat
- a series of small folds as decoration
My ruffles are a fun way for me to explore both colour and texture independently of composition and context. Different colours are “woven together” to tell a story or create tension, much like the way threads do within a “tapestry”. The tradition of tapestry reminds us of the enduring power of handmade art, and offers us insight into the past while continuing to inspire modern art forms.
